A lot of people wonder why those of us who are “obsessed” with fitness do what we do. Well, the answer is easy. I want something. I want something I have NEVER had. I want something I know I will need more down the road, but will be less able to get it. I want to be healthy! I want to be fit. I want to be able to run and play with my kids to their hearts’ content, without becoming winded. When they are teenagers, I want to be able to take them on harder, longer hikes…and keep up! I want to plan our family boating adventures to be something that will make a bunch of teenagers actually EXCITED to be with their parents. I want to be THAT mom whose kids think she can do anything or be anything. I want to be around for my grandkids and able to experience all these same joys with them. I want, I want, I want.
Like I said…I’ve never been fit. It’s not something I’ve ever had. I’m lazy. It’s just a part of my nature and always has been. When I was a kid, growing up in the heart of spud country, we got two weeks off school every fall for potato harvest. While other kids spent that two weeks working sunup to sundown and earning a couple thousand dollars cash, I spent the two weeks on my couch watching soap operas. Awesome.
Not anymore. Not my kids. I can already see the same tendencies in my oldest daughter, who would rather stay home with her book than go have an adventure, and who is terrified of new things and new places. Um, hello, mini Kandice! I love that she enjoys reading too. I LOVE that and I know it will help her in so many ways as she grows and learns. But I want more for her. I want health, and the confidence that comes from being fit. I want her to have adventures her whole life, to see new places and not be too scared to try something new.
This is why I’ve changed. This is why I workout nearly every day. This is why I SHARE my workouts every day, because it keeps me accountable to my own goals. If I happen to inspire someone else along the way…awesome! But for me, and my family…I am going to do something I’ve never done before. I am NOT GOING TO QUIT.
Is there something you need to do? A goal you need to reach? Have you tried again and again and again, and always seem to end up on the side closest to failure? I’ve been there, I know how you feel. And it’s okay! We all fall down. But if we get back up again, that’s all that matters.
So tell us…what is one big GOAL you have in your life that you’re going to push harder to reach, starting today? Tell us something NEW you’re going to do to reach that goal!
