We are All Connected {personal development motivation team}

This week in an activity with the young women from our church, we played a fun “getting to know you” game.

We all took turns reading a “This or That” question, and everyone who had the same answer as the one reading it would wrap the yarn around their wrist before passing it on.

The main point behind this little exercise was to show us that we are ALL connected in some way. Even if we don’t know someone well, we are connected. We are all brothers and sisters in the gospel, and we can always find something we share with those around us.

An unexpected-and humorous- lesson came about when some of us had trouble catching the ball of yarn tossed at us. The ball would drop to the floor and roll out of our circle, and out of our reach. At which point we would look at each other going “Now what?!” ๐Ÿ˜‚

Together, we came up with a system. We would all stand and slowly walk toward the ball of yarn, spider web in tow. ๐Ÿ˜œ I’m sure we looked ridiculous.

However…every single time, we were able to retrieve the ball without anyone leaving the circle. Working together, we were able to press forward with the exercise.

Life can be hard. We have obstacles coming at us from all sides nearly every day. And it’s easy to want to tackle those obstacles alone. After all, by ourselves we only have one schedule, one set of values, one opinion to deal with.

But working together makes us so much stronger. Working together, we can all persevere in whatever goals we have in life.

This concept applies in so many areas of our lives. I work with my family and my brothers and sisters in the gospel to press on in our efforts to become more Christlike, and to earn our spot in the eternities. After all, without my friends and family, what’s the point of eternal life?

It even applies to my business. My team of coaches is constantly working together to press forward, having faith in our mission. We reach out to support those who struggle (much like we reached our yarn-tied wrists forward to give the girl reaching for the yarn a little more slack). And together, we persevere, we change lives…others’ and our own.

How about a fitness goal? Have you heard over and over that you need accountability? You need a friend to hold you accountable to your goal or a group to support you. This is how I personally help my clients to reach their goals, by giving them both one-on-one and group support, and it works! Why? Because EVERYTHING is easier when you work together.

So when you feel like going it alone, stop and consider the power of working together, as part of a unit. You will never regret forming those bonds of friendship and love, and you’ll reach your goals every time. โค๏ธ

Ultimate Reset Final Results {Cleanse Supplements Weight Loss Nutrition Whole Foods}

Woot! I did it! Did you hear that? I DID IT! I have a really hard time sticking to things, I get bored and like to hop around. So the thought of spending money to NOT be able to eat any of the foods I love…well, let’s just say it’s no wonder it took me almost two years to decide to do this thing.

But…I did it! Yesterday was day 21 of my Ultimate Resetย ย , and I can honestly say I gave it everything I had! Does that mean I was perfect? Heck no! Did I cheat on my nutrition? Heck yes! But for the most part, I was pretty disciplined (a lot more than I’m used to, that’s for sure), and I got the results to prove it.

So…you wanna hear how I did? ๐Ÿ™‚

Energy

Before the Reset, I was SO tired all the time! It didn’t matter how much sleep I got, I couldn’t drag my butt out of ย bed and I could hardly keep my eyes open after 3 pm. I was having frequent power naps in the afternoon because I just couldn’t stay awake. It was awful!

As with most cleanses, the instructions for the Reset warn you that you may feel more tired than usual during the first or second week. Considering the state I was in before I started, I was prepared for two weeks of being absolutely

To my surprise…my energy was through the ROOF! Almost within the first 24 hours my energy levels were improving, and they continued to improve throughout the entire program. There were a few sleepy days, but those usually followed a later-than-normal bedtime. It felt SO good to finally be able to function normally!

Complexion

For about three months before the Reset, I was dealing with the WORST case of teenage-style breakouts. GROSS! I am well into my 30s, I should NOT have to put up with zits! It was SO frustrating! One of the possible side-effects of the Reset is a major breakout, due to the toxins being released from your body. I was more than a little nervous! Before the first week was halfway over, my skin was clearing up, and I hadn’t had ANY new breakouts. CRAZY! I had one minor breakout at the beginning of week 3, but it was gone in a day and my skin has been clear since.

Cravings

Before I started, I was not only craving the crap NON-stop, but I was NOT liking the idea of any of the healthy stuff I needed. Vegetables were grossing me out, and most of the time I wasn’t even hungry. Unless there was cake. Or brownies. Or ice cream. Now THOSE made my tummy rumble! But put a plate of yummy salad in front of me and I would almost have to hold back the gag reflex. Not exactly ideal when you have to feed a family of 6 and preferably, feed them healthy.

I won’t lie and tell you I didn’t get tired of vegetables even during the Reset. After three weeks of 80% vegetables, I think most people would struggle. But, I can say that I am back to loving my veggies and getting hungry at all the right times again. If I’m hungry, it’s because it’s mealtime, not because there’s a cake in the house. And I found some AWESOME new recipes in the process that will be a regular addition to our menu. Sweet potato nachos are bomb, and this quinoa salad is so yummy and versatile!

Discipline

Have I mentioned how hard it is for me to stick to something? For real, I have always struggled to follow-through with something I’ve committed to doing, so the idea of committing to 21 days of healthy eating and supplements…well, let’s just say I was skeptical.

There were certainly days where I caved and added some chicken to my vegetarian meal, or sneakedย a few licks of my toddler’s ice cream cone (cause it was melting, of course!), but for the most part, I was able to restrain myself and discipline myself like I’ve never done before. And bonus? I don’t even really WANT to go hog wild now that the Reset is over. I’m pretty content to allow myself a small treat here and there, but I don’t feel like I need to get in the kitchen and bake up a huge batch of brownies.

So, there you have it…that’s my results from the Ultimate Reset. All in all, I would say it was well-worth the investment AND the efforts, because I’m feeling better than I have in months! Thanks for stopping by to check out my results! Feel free to share this with anyone who is considering a cleanse system of any kind. Many of the “easy” cleanses out there (juice, anyone?) can do more harm than good, because you’re not providing your body with the most essential nutrients. Ultimate Reset takes care of you by providing all natural supplements to support your body while ridding it of toxins, so you’re not doing more damage. So if you, or someone you know, is considering a cleanse, shoot me an email at kandie_mcd@yahoo.com and we can talk in more detail about the Reset.

What’s that? You wanted MORE? Oh, you wanted to hear if I lost any weight? Shoot, I forgot that part. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Let me just say that being a Fit-Minded Mama is about FAR more than the number on the scale. Being fit is a journey, and it’s a feeling. It’s not an image. Yes, I want to lose weight, and yes, I want to look amazing. BUT, it is far more important to FEEL amazing and be able to keep up with my kids on all our summer adventures. It’s priceless to have the knowledge that I can do hard things and that I CAN complete something I’ve set out to do. So while weight loss is exciting and super cool…it’s not the whole picture.

That being said…I did lose a LITTLE weight. Not a ton, mind you, but enough to make me happy. Who wouldn’t be pretty pleased to lose eleven pounds in twenty-one days? ๐Ÿ™‚

Ultimate Reset Week 2 Review {Beachbody Ultimate Reset Cleanse Review}

Well, week two is DONE! I am freaking PROUD of all that I accomplished this week. I managed to survive a camping trip. I don’t know about you, but camping is synonymous with s’mores, licorice, candy, chips, cookies, and any number of other treats/snacks that are definitely NOT allowed. My mom and I planned all our meals around what we could eat and it worked out great! I even managed to avoid having even a single lick of my kids’ square ice cream cones!

Success? I think so.

I even survived the end-of-soccer pizza party last night, to which my boys convinced me to bring dessert pizza for the treat. OREO and COOKIE DOUGH dessert pizza from our favorite pizza buffet. That was a pretty big test!

But… I did it! Not a single bite.

And you know what? I wasn’t even all that interested!

So, here’s a quick-ish, rambling, probably a little annoying, video, reviewing my week and talking about my plans for after the Reset is done. In ONE WEEK! Check it out!

So, there you have it! Week 2 is done, now on to week 3 and completion of one of the HARDEST things I’ve ever done! What’s the hardest thing YOU have done lately?

Ultimate Reset – Week 1 Progress {Beachbody Ultimate Reset Cleanse Progress Transformation Results}

So, I mentioned it in my post yesterday, but wanted to elaborate a bit more. I’m doing a 21 day cleanse called the Ultimate Reset. Might just be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done! But, it’s working! I feel so freaking good I can’t hardly believe it!

Today is day 8, so the start of week 2. I wanted to give a little more info about what I’m doing, and share my results. Check out my vid, cause that’s a whole lot easier than typing it all. ๐Ÿ˜€

Crazy, right? SIX pounds! I’m so dang excited to see what this next week brings that it’s making it a ton easier to be good. Today is the first day I haven’t had an afternoon snack (which is optional) the whole time!

And because I promised…here are my before/progress pics. This is just right before I started and today. I can’t tell you how hard it is to share that first pic. First of all….gross! Those shorts are nasty. ๐Ÿ˜› I do NOT have a booty-short-body yet. BUT, it shows my shape well and helps me to see the progress. Still have a ways to go, but I’m happy to see the muffin top disappearing!

Reset1
All in all, I’m pretty happy with my results so far. It’s a dang good thing, cause I’d probably quit otherwise. ๐Ÿ˜› I don’t know about you, but I need RESULTS to keep going! Stay tuned for more results as the time goes on. Two more weeks to go and I’m done with this and hopefully back to healthy habits that will get me through all the crazy summer food! Thanks for stopping by!

Becoming a Fit-Minded Mama

If you’ve been around awhile, you might have noticed the change to our blog name. While I am still passionate about helping our entire families become healthy, I have come to recognize that it starts with the mama, and that I have more to offer if I’m able to focus solely on YOU…the women of the house. So we have morphed from Fit Mama – Fit Family, to Fit-Minded Mama. What do you think?
FITmindedMAMA
My business is helping women become more healthy. At first glance, this means healthy eating, exercise, weight loss and muscle building. While all of that is super important and I work hard every day to motivate women to do these things, there is more to what I do. At least, if I do it the way I want to do it, there is so much more. I have become passionate about spending as much time (or more time) focused on strengthening my MIND than I spend strengthening my BODY.

Because of this, I work very hard to help the women who choose me as their coach become stronger mentally and emotionally, right alongside their physical strengthening. I recommend books that I think will help in their situation, share quotes, and otherwise try to inspire them to believe in themselves. Because of my passion for this practice, I dedicate a portion of my day, every day, to personal development.

What does that mean? It means I am reading books (or listening to audio books and watching videos) that help me to become a better person. I know, I know…I used to think these kinds of books were hokey and completely useless. I’ve even been gifted personal development books years past that I eventually got rid of without cracking the cover. *insert shamed face*

I am going to start sharing reviews of the books I am reading to give you recommendations and ideas of where YOU could start if you have a desire to become stronger mentally. Today, I finished an audio book that I think ANYONE would benefit from. It was amazing! The book is called Switch: How to Change Things When Things Are Hard by Chip Heath and Dan Heath.

How often do we try to make a change in our lives, only to have everything revert back to where it was within a few days? I don’t know about you, but it happens to me almost daily. Trying to change my habits, change our family’s habits, trying to change the way things in my business are run or trying to change the way I support and motivate my team.

This book had so many incredible insights into how to make changes in any situation…changes that STICK. There were a TON of awesome real-life examples and fascinating stories to help drive the points home, so it was actually a very entertaining book. I would give this one two thumbs up…you need to read it!

Something Every Person Can Do… {Monday Motivation}

Have you ever sat down to watch the news, or checked into your favorite online news source, and come away just feeling icky? How often do you sit down to the newspaper and smile because of all the happy stories? Not very often. Most days our news is riddled with the bad in the world. The crime and deceit that is becoming more frequent is what creates a sensational news story. It is very rare for a happy, feel-good story to become top priority in the news.

Why is that? Is it because it doesn’t happen? The whole world’s gone to seed and there is very little good left? I am quite certain that each of us, if we tried, could prove this to be incorrect. If we set out on our daily errands with the mindset of finding the good in the world, we would all come away with some pretty fantastic examples that chivalry is, in fact, not dead.

But we can’t argue the fact that we see far more of the bad than we do the good. It is hard to want to do anything kind for someone when we’re so worried about what bad things are coming our way. We tend to keep to ourselves more when we go in public, to trust those around us less, and to try and keep our private lives as safe as possible from potential intruders.

While this is, in some ways, necessary, I believe we take it too far. Yes, it is unfortunate that we have to lock our doors, when most of us can remember that being unnecessary when we were young. Yes, we do have to teach our children to avoid strangers and to protect themselves from those who would harm them. Unfortunately, most of us take this to the extreme and it leads to impolite, unfriendly habits.

None of us can change this. Not one of us can go out with the intention of bringing back the “good ol’ days” and making our community safe and whole again. No one person can do this and, chances are, we’ll never see “those days” again. We live in a different time with a different culture.

But there is something each of us can do to make this current world a better place to be in. No one can help everyone. But everyone can help someone. Rather than avoiding eye contact in the grocery store, look someone in the eye with a smile and say “hello.” Rather than shaking your head when you see the sweet little old lady struggling with her groceries, and wondering why her family doesn’t help her more…cross the parking lot and say “Good afternoon! May I help you with those groceries?” It will only take you a few moments. That kind little old lady will most likely say yes and thank you for your generosity. Is it possible that someone would refuse your kindness? Yes, of course it is! They’ve been taught to be suspicious of things like this, remember? How sad! So if they do say no, what do you do? You just keep smiling, so “Okay, I just wanted to offer. Have a great day!” and walk away, knowing that you have done something nice for someone, whether they know it or not!

So. Where are you going today? What errands are you running? Who might you see on your path to work? Stop for just a moment and think about the day ahead of you. Or, if you’re reading this in the evening, think about tomorrow. Everyone has an opportunity in their day to help another person. I want to challenge you to do it! It can be big or small, but choose at least one person to help. A smile, an offer for assistance, or even a well-timed compliment. Do something today, then comment below and let us know what you did, and how it made you feel! Take it a step further and teach your children to do the same. Teach them to offer a friendly hello to a stranger when Mom or Dad are nearby. Teach them to hold the door for someone coming behind or to offer assistance to the elderly. Make this a family challenge, and just wait and see how it changes your day!

I’m taking the challenge myself…stay tuned! ๐Ÿ™‚

PS: If you like this concept, and would like to see it go to work more regularly and more powerfully in your life, I would highly encourage you to purchase and read the book The Go-Giver. It is a short, very quick read that will completely turn your day around and help you to become a better person. It is now on the required-reading list for my kids as well! ๐Ÿ™‚

Finding Balance in All Things

I’ve been contemplating the importance of balance a lot lately. Life is BUSY and important things get put on the back burner. I’ve been hearing and reading about balance in life. Of course there are three areas that make up balance. Physical, emotional and spiritual health all depend on one another in order for us to be healthy.

If we focus mainly on physical health, the other two areas will likely suffer and our bodies will not perform as well as they should. Does physical activity help the other areas? Yes, it does. It awakens the senses and opens up channels for us to feel and experience things in life. What happens though when a person becomes too focused on physical fitness alone? We suffer. We look only for good or bad physical attributes, not only in ourselves, but in others as well. We judge ourselves not by the kind of person we are, but by the amount of fat we have or by the presence of perfect musculature. That, to me, is not healthy.

We have a body that we need to care for in many ways. Sleep, healthy foods, uplifting messages and physical activity are all important. I hope that on your journey to good health, you don’t focus solely on the physical aspect of your transformation. What you look like on the outside, does not make up the person you are on the inside. A good balance is what makes you attractive! 20140709-002633-1593654.jpg

Adversity vs Advantage {Monday Motivation}

Good morning, and happy Monday! Are you feeling the post-holiday blah’s yet today? It can be difficult to leave the care-free vacation mode and return to the every day schedule, but luckily we have a little Monday Motivation to help you start your week off right! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you ever set a goal or tried to accomplish something important to you, only to feel like you’ve failed? Have you ever blamed your past for this? Do you ever say “If only I wasn’t stuck with…” or “They’ll never hire me because of…” etc? We tend to try and place the blame for our circumstances anywhere besides on ourselves. I recently finished reading Maximum Achievement by Brian Tracy, one of the most noted personal development authors today. In this book, he talked frequently about the importance of taking responsibility for everything that happens to us. Even if it truly is out of our hands (yes, we realize you could not have chosen for that man to run his car into yours), we are responsible for how we react and respond to what others do to us. Say to yourself in every situation “I am responsible, I am responsible, I am responsible” and you’ll quickly see your actions and reaction changing.

Last month I had an incredible opportunity to attend Coach Summit, an annual convention of Beachbody Coaches in Las Vegas. What an incredible experience! We not only were able to enjoy a ton of great training from top coaches in the business, but we were treated with two keynote speakers who completely owned that audience of almost 10,000 coaches. The first keynote speaker was Darren Hardy, another well-known personal development author (if you have not heard of The Compound Effect…get it. Now!) as well as the editor of Success Magazine. Many of the concepts he shared with us were already known to me, having read his book, but he still managed to blow my mind with some of the concepts he shared…enough to cause me to take a full page of notes, scribbling in the margins and all. ๐Ÿ˜‰

One of the concepts he talked about really made me stop and think. I keep coming back to this idea over and over, because I know how many people use their past as an excuse. Some event that has occurred in the past is holding them back and tripping them up like it’s a tangible tripwire in their path to success.

Mr Hardy spoke of our need to take responsibility for our lives as well. When it comes to past trials, he said this:

AdversityAdvantage

Your trials, the adversity in your past, is NOT a tripwire. It is your advantage! Your trials become your muscles, your knowledge and ability to handle anything that’s thrown your way. So you ate your way to 100 pounds overweight after your divorce? Well so what, this time you are STRONGER and you will succeed at losing that weight, you will succeed at being happy, and you will succeed at avoiding the same mistake in the future! So you tried a business before, and it was an epic fail? So what? You’re smarter now, more experienced, and your new MUSCLES will help you to take the right steps toward a more successful venture this time than the last. Your adversity is your advantage, your trials become your muscles.

Wow. Mind blown? Anyone? Or is it just me? I absolutely loved this concept and think about it frequently. So tell me…anyone else feel like they can do anything now? Get out there, flex your muscles, use your advantages, and do something amazing!

Expect the Best {Monday Motivation}

Part of our job as coaches encourages us to do regular personal development. My personal study led me recently to a book titled The Go-Giver. This book was absolutely incredible! I would recommend it to anyone looking ย for something uplifting. It was insightful, brilliant, as well as quick and fun to read.

The main concept in The Go-Giver is that we need to focus more on providing value to the people around us, rather than focusing on what they are going to give us. If we do this, and do it consistently, we will be given more value than we could ever hope to have. It’s a simple concept, yet a tricky one to understand and believe in.

One of the more specific ideas presented was that of our expectations of other people. We often make judgments of other people and their reactions to a situation or treatment of us, before those situations have occurred. Our judgments may be based on previous experience with this person or someone else, or they could be just plain cynical. But when we expect someone to treat us badly, it’s a sure thing that we will be treated just as we expect.

If, however, we go about our day expecting to meet the nicest people and encounter dozens of happy, generous people, that’s exactly what we’re going to get! We attract the very things we expect into our lives!

I know, it sounds weird. Some people accept the concept right from the start, others are more…cynical. ๐Ÿ™‚ But I want to challenge you. The next time you leave the house (or office), I want you to do it expecting to meet someone truly kind. You don’t have to become best friends. Just a friendly encounter that makes you smile and think “Yeah, there are still good people in the world.” I want you to expect this, to look for it, and search for it while you go about your day. I’m pretty certain you’ll come across exactly what you’re expecting. Let me know if you try it and have a great experience…share it with us!

Fit Kids for Summer Series: Summer Bucket List

We’re kicking off our Fit Kids for Summer Series with a little planning. Do any of the rest of you find a ton of great ideas toward the end of the school year, and get so excited for kids to get out so you can do all the fun things…only to forget most of them?ย Me too! I am so excited to be a little more prepared this year. Check it out!

fitkids

Does anyone else feel like school flew by? I’m so excited to have my kids home! This can also be a little bit stressful worrying about what we can do so that they are active and I avoid the dreaded words, “Mom, I’m bored!” My boys can get caught up in the video game world if I let them so I am thinking of ways now that I can avoid that this summer. I only have one week left to do this!

I decided I was going to do a “Summer Bucket List.” This is going to be full of ideas that we can do that will keep both their minds and bodies healthy! Have you heard of this? I’m pretty sure I saw it on Pinterest once. It seems like a great way to get a little bit of everything this summer!

Here is what I’ve thought of so far:
1. Summer Reading at the library.
2. Daily run or bike ride
3. Lots of playing in the sprinkler and jumping on the trampoline
4. Science kit experiments
5. Our own field trip
6. Scavenger hunt
7. Swimming
8. Play at the park
9. Sno-cones!
10. Service project

That’s it for now! I would love to hear of ideas that you may have that I can add to our bucket list!!! What is on yours?
